Hi Nick,
we also stopped fishing as more and more fish swam away with lure piercing, but now we've heard, from several quite reliable people, that the fish actually manages to expel the hook within a few days, and because of that it's sometimes better to just cut the line than trying to wriggle out a hook if you plan to release the fish.
We also hate wasting food, but with a great catch you really don't have to, even without a fridge or cooler. Just cut thin fish filets/steaks, sprinkle with salt and dry in the sun, in the cockpit. Tasty snacks if you make them really thin, if the pieces are bigger you let them dry properly, then rehydrate them before cooking (they last for at least 3 months, but we never kept self-dried tuna longer than that). We'll start fishing again once we get Bika back into the water. Fair winds, Nina (and Henrik)

Jolanda & I just arrived back in Berkeley after our two-month trip down around the Channel Islands. We saw the article in Latitude38 about the tsunami, which quoted you quite a bit. It was interesting to read your account, and I also looked at that article where they interviewed your parents. Man, quite an experience. Good on you for trying to help as much as you did.

Best wishes for your next landfall!

Glad to see you're getting closer to home Nick, it's been great following you on your voyage and I guess you're looking forward to finishing now. It's been inspirational reading and I'm amazed how you've managed it on such a limited budget. It just shows you don't have to get loads of corporate sponsors and high performance equipment to fulfill a dream in fact your journey has been all the more impressive for the the lack of it.

I wish you every success in whatever you plan to do when you get home, and with your determination I'm sure you'll achieve it.

Good luck

Jim

P.S I won't be surprised if you get bored in a couple of years and decide to bring Constellation home ;)

Brilliant Nick. What an epic effort. Sorry about the fish. Some of my best moments have been catching and eating the medium and small tuna and mahi I've caught underway. If you try again use the smallest lures you've got. It helps me keep the size of the catches down as I hate wasting anything I am responsible for taking as well.

Fair winds mate.
