Hi Beany - just seen your message on the Liveaboard forum, ybw.com - and thought I'd pull up and say hallo!!

Best of luck wherever you go - and on a C 26! Hardy ..

I lurk in the Lounge, but have been known to drop in on the Liveaboards. Done some of that, but not at the moment, but fingers crossed for the future...

Best of luck with the crossing. Will you be out of internet connectivity whilst away from land ? It would be a real shame as I look forward to your posts to brighten my dreary office days and remind why I've booked those sailing lessons later in the year.

Hey Nick, and a very happy and adventureous 2008 to you!

I'm still incredibly jealous of you and the dream you've created for yourself. You really are living the dream for all of us who (for one reason or another) can't.

Keep your chin up and your face toward the horizon - onward, ever onward my friend! :)

Wishing you good winds, smooth seas and all of my happiest thoughts and admiration.

Hi there Nick, many congratulations on your progress so far. I was sure that you would find great hospitality in Portugal where I have many happy memories of from my earlier life in the Royal Navy, I expect Cascais has changed much since since the 1980s, but not the people. If it is any consolation (as if you needed it) it is about to snow on Deacons Boatyard with a force 8 blowing up the Hamble. I was mad enough to take my mast down a few days ago and now need a lull to get it back up. May I wish you a belated happy new year and every success in the rest of your venture now that you are about let go and push off from the continent of Europe. Regards, Ed

Thanks Arek!

Yes, it is rather amazing I have continued sailing in winter... Amazing in the sense that I am the only one out here, leaving all the coast of Spain and Portugal to myself! Where the heck is everyone? Ok, it's a little chilly, but really, besides the ten metre swell and 34kts of wind blowing right now in the marina, it's beautiful! ;)

My plans are to sail to Madeira, Canaries and possibly Cape Verde, before landing somewhere on a sandy beach in the Caribbean! I will not go via the Azores... It is kind of a detour. If I wasn't so late in the 'season' I would, but unfortunately I sail at a snails pace. I will leave from Lisbon direct.

Happy New Year!

It is amazing you keep going in the middle of winter.

For sure you have your bad moments. Last summer I remember how I was waiting for last port after just 3 weeks continues sailing. You are now already for mounts on the way, and so much more is on front of you.
Of course it will be interesting to hear more about ’sailors blues’. Specially as probably many people (like me) are sitting in office after holiday and thinking 'What we are doing here' ;)

I wish you all the best in New Year, and I believe you will fulfill all your plans in 2008.

Arek

PS
What are your plans. Are you not planing to go south: Spain, Morocco, and Canary, but plan to cross Atlantic via Azores?
